Donair Sauce – Halifax Style
Donair sauce Halifax style, this is not the Mediterranean recipe, it is quite different and unique. It has a very sweet and tangy flavor which is different than its heavy garlic-tasting cousin. It is the perfect pair for the Halifax Donair, topped with chopped onions and tomatoes.
The sauce can be made ahead and stored in the fridge for up to 2 weeks.
- 1 can liquid condensed milk (about a cup and a half)
- ½ cup sugar
- ½ cup white vinegar
- ½ tbsp garlic powder
- 2 tbsp water
- 2½ tbsp cornstarch

In a saucepan, mix the condensed milk, garlic powder, vinegar and sugar over medium heat. In a small bowl whisk together the water and cornstarch until dissolved and as the mixture heats up, add the cornstarch and water mix to it, stirring frequently.

Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes, then remove from heat and cool down. Refrigerate for 30 minutes or until it thickens a bit before serving.
